How long did your baby stay in a Graco Snug Ride Car Seat?

Hi ladies,

I am wondering how long can an infant stay in a Graco Snug Ride Car Seat? My son is a month and a half, and he is pretty long already! He is 22 inches, and weights 7.5 pounds. I want him rear facing for as long as possible. How long before your baby out grew a standard car seat? Is it possible to keep my son in his car seat for a year, without him outgrowing it?

Thanks.

My daughter was in the Graco Snug Ride Car Seat until she was about nine months, then we switched her to a larger Britax seat, facing backwards, until she was a year (and 20 pounds). Your son will have to stay rearfacing until he is a year and 20 pounds. Yes, it’s possible to keep him in the same seat for a year.

My son was 9 months old when we switched to just a rear facing one but he was kind of a big baby. I know that some people can keep them in there till they are 11 months or a year. i guess it just depends on how fast your baby grows

my babies were about 10 months when i switched them to a different car seat.

my son was born at 22 inches long and 10 lbs 3 oz and he stayed in the infant carrier until he was around 5 months my daughter was 8-9 months before she outgrew the infant carrier. After the infant carrier they go to the convertible car seat and mine holds up to 40 lbs and it can be rear facing until they outgrow it or you decide to turn it around to forward facing.

My 10 month old is still in hers. She could make it to a year or year and a half probably. We don’t plan on switching her out anytime soon.

Your baby will probably outgrow the infant car seat before he is a year old. Most babies do. What you need to do is get a convertable carseat that can be rear facing or foward facing when the time comes and that is appropriate for lighter and heavier weights…. I believe most convertable’s go up to 50lbs whereas teh infant seats are only up to about 22lbs.

My son is 4 months old and 25 incehs long, 16lbs. He is quickly outgrowing his carseat. Probably around 6 months is when we will get the convertible one.

My daughter was out of it now. She is soon to be 10 months. She is now 29 inches – which is the approximate max height of the Snug Ride. Your son might be OK weight-wise, but maybe not height-wise.

I moved her to a rear-facing convertible seat now.

Yes it’s possible but not likely, a lot of babies will outgrow them sooner. The weight limit for these is 22 pounds, if your baby reaches one year old before 22 pounds, you then turn it around and use it as a front facing seat. Many babies though reach the weight limit for the seat before they turn it front facing. My niece is 17 months old and only weighs 25 pounds, so when she was one year and 20 pounds my sister in law opted just to buy a larger convertible front facing seat rather than turning around her seat for the last 2 pounds she’d stay in that seat. It will depend how fast your baby grows. My niece is in the low end of her weight class, so it will have to be based on how quickly your baby gains weight.

I had twins that started at 5 lbs and we outgrew the infant carrier just before they were 8 months old. It was more due to height than weight. They were just too long to have the proper neck and spine support.

I completely agree with you on keeping them rear-facing . . . this is why you upgrade to a convertible car seat. With high weight limits up to 35 pounds on some of them for the rear-facing position, you can often keep your little one rear-facing up to 2 years of age. Then you flip them around and get another few years out of the seat.

    Best wishes!

Check the weight and length requirements in your manual and they are usually listed on the careseat itself. I have a graco carseat and I believe the requirement are up to 23 pounds and 73 inches or something like that

  • Sienna:

My daughter was about 11 months when we put her into a front-facing car seat. He shouldn’t outgrow the seat before a year, so I definitely think it would be fine to keep him in the rear-facing seat until he is 1. Rear-facing car seats are just so much safer than front-facing ones for babies, so you want to keep your little one in there for as long as possible.
